RAs. The sample represented 61 institutions
across a range of Carnegie classiﬁcations and
national reach with the representation of 28
states plus the District of Columbia. The participants were 54% (n = 781) female and 71% (n
= 1,020) White American. Sophomores identifying as African American accounted for 13% (n
= 189) of the sample. The mean institutional response rate was 90%, with 52 institutions demonstrating response rates at 80% or higher.

Instrument
The ACUHO-I/EBI Resident Assistant survey
(currently called the ACUHO-I/EBI Student
Staff Assessment) was developed in 1999 as a
joint project between Educational Benchmarking, Inc. (EBI) and the Association of College
and University Housing Ofﬁcers-Interna-

tional (ACUHO-I) (Educational Benchmarking, Inc., n.d.). The survey was developed to
provide insight into RA perceptions of and
satisfaction with various aspects of their RA
experience for the purpose of department
benchmarking. The ACUHO-I Standards
and Ethical Principles for College and University Housing Professionals and Council for the
Advancement of Standards in Higher Education
(CAS) Standards for Student Services/Development Programs (CAS Housing and Residential Life Programs Self-Assessment Guide,
1988/2001) were used as the basis for survey
development. Evidence suggests that the RA
survey is valid and reliable when used with a
sophomore sample (Brandt Brecheisen, 2014).
In addition, reliability scores have remained
stable across multiple administrations of the
