sampling was used to assemble members for
each focus group because it allowed us to assemble a range of experienced staff who could
speak to important aspects of our topic that
we could not have assembled from other sampling choices (Creswell, 2012). Specifically, the
member composition of the focus group with
professionals represented the overall structural
diversity of the professional staff; however, the
composition of the focus group with RAs included higher percentages of persons of color
and international students than in the overall
RA staff. Detailed notes were kept throughout
the entire data collection process. These notes
were particularly important in helping the researchers to monitor and process their reflections about the data.
At each stage of data collection, the researchers analyzed the data against the back-
