table 3 presents coefficient estimates for all
variables, with model 1 analyzing student drug
violations in on-campus housing and model 2,
alcohol violations. for model 1, on-campus
housing space and full-time undergraduates
are positive and significant (p < .01), a somewhat self-evident finding. graduate student
enrollment, alternatively, is negative and significant (p < .05). With regard to undergraduate demographics, an institution's proportion
of female students is negatively correlated
(p < .01) with drug violations, which supports
prior evidence on the higher propensity for
drug use among males (mcCabe et al., 2007).
specifically, model 1 predicts a 0.7% decrease
in drug violations for each 1% increase in undergraduate student population that is female.
among race/ethnicity, no variables are significant predictors of drug violations. for financial
predictors, only tuition is a positive predictor
(p < .01) in model 1, where a 4.5% increase in
drug violations is predicted for each thousanddollar increase in tuition. all told, a college or
university's racial/ethnic and class makeup is a
poor predictor of drug offenses in on-campus
housing, though a relatively higher female
population across the sample likely indicates
fewer drug violations.
