Reverse-Engineering the RA Hiring Process

The application and reference component
had a maximum raw score of 32 points. Each
listed reference received an email with a link to
a brief questionnaire form. Considering the logistics of collecting references and a candidate
necessarily relying upon others to complete
the references, the department required two,
but allowed up to three references. A reference raw score disproportionally favors candidates who receive three references compared
to those who only received two references (due
to receiving up to 24 points compared to 16).
Thus, to account for this variance, the combined interview and reference points were then

converted into a standardized score such that
each candidate was equally evaluated in the application portion regardless of the number of
references received.
Some candidates were then cut based on the
distribution of standardized application scores.
Candidates who advanced in the overall process
were invited to participate in two individual interviews. Each interview yielded a maximum
possible raw score of 56, for a total maximum
individual interview raw score of 112.
Since the SP16 recruitment process was the
first iteration to occur without agroup process,
no empirical data existed from which to inform
