Hit the Road Chances are you know someone working in the housing department at another campus located near you. If not, now’s a great time to introduce yourself. Take a day to visit the campus, see how they manage different situations and processes, and see if there are any ideas to bring back to your campus. If you’re a more senior member of the staff, you can even expand this idea and make it a goal to visit two or three other campuses around the country over the course of a year. Don’t forget to return the favor and offer to play host to some of their staff on your campus as well. 22. Go Global Work to develop a partnership between the residence halls and the campus’ international programs office. Adding a global perspective to a themed community will help students connect with university staff and upperclass students who have studied abroad and will teach them about opportunities to travel internationally. 23. Keep On Teaching You spend at least 40 hours a week being an educator to students and staff alike. Yet you’d be surprised how rewarding it is to do it a few more hours a week outside the work day as well. Put together an improv workshop for a community theater group, look into becoming an ESL instructor, or coach a children’s sports team.http://www.map-works.com http://www.map-works.com
