McElroy is the new hall coordinator for Umstead Hall. Sarah Meiser is the new hall coordinator for Clement Hall. Saint Louis University St. Louis, Missouri Alvin Sturdivant is the new director of housing and residence life. He previously served as associate director of residential life for five years at the University of Vermont in Burlington. Sturdivant received his bachelor’s degree in psychology, his master’s degree in higher education administration from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and continued on to receive his Ed.D. from the University of Vermont. emergency responses. He is stepping up from the position of executive director of residence life, which he held for 17 years. Janz has previously worked in administrative positions at the University of Illinois in Chicago, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Janz holds a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He earned his master’s of business degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago and a master’s of education degree in counseling and guidance and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. campus for 27 years, Le Grande began his career at UC-Berkeley as the senior student affairs officer in 1981. Prior to becoming interim vice chancellor, he served as associate vice chancellor of student affairs for residential and student service programs. Le Grande earned a bachelor’s degree in social ecology from the University of California-Irvine and a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in college student services administration from Oregon State University in Corvallis. Reed College Portland, Oregon Jerlena Griffin-Desta has joined Reed College as vice president and dean of student services. Griffin-Desta brings over 20 years of experience in student services at both liberal arts colleges and large public universities, including, for the past 13 years, the University of CaliforniaBerkeley. As UC-Berkeley’s executive director of student development, she supervised the residential living programs for more than 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students, as well as newstudent services, academic support, and family programs. Griffin-Desta earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and her master’s degree at Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education. University of California Berkeley, California Harry Le Grande has been appointed as the vice chancellor for student affairs. He has served as the interim vice chancellor since January 2007 and is stepping into the permanent role. His professional experience includes undergraduate admissions, the registrar’s office, financial aid, housing, dining, fundraising for scholarships, child care services, campus life and leadership, the dean of students office, and career services. Le Grande will oversee a program with an annual operating budget of $165 million, 1,300 career positions, and 1,500 student employees. Serving the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, Wisconsin Jeff Janz has been promoted to the interim dean of student life. In this position, he will oversee a set of services in student life including health services, counseling services, the center for students with disabilities, leadership development, career services, firstyear experience, student governance, university conduct, commencement, and 1 Talking Stick
