vision Sound Decisions As the calendar changes, we may start thinking even more about what the new year will hold. With the stories of economic hardships on our campuses and around the world, it might not be easy to feel optimistic about the next 12 months. But just as we must be money conscious on our campuses, so is ACUHO-I continuing its commitment to being good stewards to our members. First of all, let me state clearly that ACUHO-I and the ACUHO-I Foundation are financially sound. Steps have been made to reduce risk and protect our funds. Also, the ACUHO-I Executive Board and Central Office staff have considered the current economic climate and have made careful decisions while budgeting for 2009. And along with this economic pragmatism we renew our commitment to providing valuable member services. Regardless of economic conditions – and, in this case, due to them – ACUHO-I must remain indispensable to its members. One service we provide is our annual conference. Right now, the program committee is identifying informative sessions for the 2009 event in Baltimore. We also are excited to announce that environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been confirmed as our keynote speaker. BUt JUst As we mUst Along with the traditional association services, ACUHO-I continues to look Be money conscioUs forward and to explore more affordable and efficient ways to deliver information. on oUr cAmPUses, so As an example, the digital version of this magazine can reach potentially thousands is AcUho-i continUing more individuals with no additional charge to member institutions. In 2009 you will see a new and improved online resource center. And watch for an increased slate of its commitment to Webinars, delivering valuable information in a low-cost, no-travel format. Finally, I point to the value of The Placement Exchange: Seattle ‘09, which can save you the time and expense of attending multiple job placement events each year. Our partnership with NASPA, as well as NODA, NACA, and ASJA, has created the job placement service for student affairs. Last year was a success, with rave reviews and attendance figures that exceeded expectations. We hope you will join us in Seattle, March 5-8, as you continue to build your staff. Challenging times may lie ahead. However, I trust you will continue to find ways to provide an exemplary student living experience, just as ACUHO-I will continue to deliver exemplary resources to help you achieve that goal. Best wishes for the new year. Norbert W. Dunkel ACUHO-I President Being good stewArds to oUr memBers. Talking STick
