JUST IN BY THE NUMBERS NUMBER OF PEOPLE LIVING IN RESIDENCE HALLS ACCORDING TO THE 2000 UNITED STATES CENSUS Group Quarters Enumeration. That’s the fancy term the United States Census Bureau uses to describe the process they use to count the residents of various “group quarters” including campus residence halls. In recent months, census workers have conducted Address Canvassing and Group Quarters Validation, as well as advance visits where the final arrangements are made for optimal appointment dates and ensuring facility access. All of this is in preparation for the big head count to be held between April 1 and May 15, 2010. The census takers will coordinate their efforts with resident assistants and housing staff to distribute and collect individual census reports in the residence halls as well as in sorority and fraternity houses. Students living in off-campus dwellings will be counted through the general census process.
