Another factor that Kneflin credits for Xavier’s effectiveness is the social justice wing of their apartment complex. Students residing in this wing all share the same connection: they’re all oriented toward the issue of social justice. In order to live there, students must follow a specific application process and are expected to become educators. “These students host group dinners and educate other students in the complex on social justice issues,” Kneflin points out. can make,” says Kneflin. Staff at both Xavier and Drexel use EBI data to help make many informed decisions, since the data arms them with both the information and the certainty necessary for fact-based decision making. “We review the data each year and use it to inform planning for the next year, especially as the feedback relates to improvements or issues that need to be addressed,” says Brown. After using EBI assessment for more than ten years, Drexel has been able to track and analyze longitudinal trends to get a sense of where they’re improving and where improvements still need to be made. “From the EBI data, we learned that the primary predictor of overall student satisfaction with their residential experience is the personal interactions factor.

That information was a driving force behind our office’s move to a relationship-based model as opposed to a programming-based model,” says Saha. “We also use the EBI data to work with our partner offices, such as the provost’s office and university housing, to make decisions on how we can best partner with these offices in an effort to better serve our students.” EBI’s use of factors and regression analysis shows universities where to focus their time, money, and limited resources to have the greatest impact. As Saha explains, “We look at all of the factors and make determinations of where to put our time and energy as a residential staff for the upcoming one to three years.” tS
