It is rewarding to work with young, inquisitive people as they embrace a myriad of first experiences. There is so much to learn from students who continually challenge us to explore new ideas in an effort to create connections to their school, their community, and their heritage. It is important to create residential environments that make them feel proud, respected, and valued. I love college and university campuses – the rich history of the past, supporting the potential of the future. I was selected to lead our Student Life studio and to develop our housing expertise. At first I thought creating residence halls would be redundant and repetitive, but I quickly came to realize the rich possibilities within the building type. Over the last decade I have had the good fortune of designing 36 residence halls on 16 campuses and now realize that, of all client groups, those involved in residence life are highly educated and committed, have strong opinions about what they want, and enjoy collaborating to translate their residence life mission into built

10 years ago the leadership of our firm, Ayers Saint Gross, decided to refine our structure to align with our clients. The vast majority of our work is for colleges and universities. Our campus planning and design resemble that of the upper administrations of those institutions in establishing goals and devising the necessary strategies to achieve them. We created two architectural studios. The Arts and Science studio focuses on academic building designs to create environments where formal teaching occurs.
