Capstone Accepts Three Awards
The Capstone Companies, based in Birmingham, Alabama, received three awards from Multifamily Executive magazine (MFE) in October for excellence in community service, student housing, and apartment renovations. Executive Vice President Jeff Jones accepted the awards at MFE’s annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the fourth time in the past five years, Capstone received the MFE Student Housing Project of the Year Award. This year, the award recognized excellence in student housing for Capstone’s seventh building at the University of Maryland’s College Park campus. By renovating Durham, North Carolina’s University Apartments complex for structural stability and design, Capstone was awarded the Apartment Renovation Award. Capstone also received the Community Service Award for an Alabama cottage community that temporarily houses injured military veterans and their families.
Carrollton, Georgia Projected Opening: July 2012 • Cost: $18.9 million The 600-bed residence hall was designed by HADP Architecture and is being built by Hardin Construction Company, LLC. The facility will feature beds arranged primarily in two-bed units with semi-private baths. Amenities will include laundry facilities on every floor, lounge spaces, study areas throughout the building, a large meeting area that can be converted to four smaller spaces, and a catering kitchen.

Ellensburg, Washington Projected Opening: 2012 • Cost: $21 million The four-story, 116,000-square-foot building will feature study lounges and will house 368 students. It will be LEED-certified and built by Killian Construction Company of Springfield, Missouri.
Rutgers university
Camden, New Jersey Projected Opening: 2012 • Cost: Not Available The 12-story high rise will house 350 graduate students in one-, three-, and four-bedroom layouts. Amenities will include student gathering spaces, a fitness center, and a club room. The ground floor of the building will feature 7,000 square feet of retail space.
university of south Florida, st. Petersburg
St. Petersburg, Florida Projected Opening: 2012 • Cost: $20 million The new 81,000-square-foot Student Center complex will include dining services, a ballroom, meeting spaces, a game room, and a six-story residence hall that will house 196 students. Each room will include two bedrooms with a private bath for each. The construction company assigned to the project is Creative Contractors Inc.
