Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Washington, D.C.
Gwendolyn Jordan Dungy, executive director of NASPA since 1995, has announced her retirement, effective March 31, 2012. As quoted in a press release, Patricia Telles-Irvin, president of NASPA and vice president for student affairs at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, noted Dungy’s achievements for the association. “Under Gwen’s leadership, NASPA has experienced tremendous growth in membership and scope, developing into a strong and respected voice on policy issues in the student affairs arena and higher education overall.” During her time at NASPA, Dungy significantly increased the association’s international presence by working with federal and international student personnel across the globe. Notable projects include traveling on behalf of the U.S. State Department and Department of Education to Jordan, consulting in South Africa and Mexico, and representing U.S. student affairs at the National Academy of Education Administration in Beijing. Involvement in that work led to her being the only representative of student affairs invited to a Council of Europe international higher education meeting in Norway where delegates from 31 countries explored higher education’s role in reimagining democratic societies. As a result of that meeting, NASPA was invited to become a member of the U.S. Steering Committee of the International Consortium for Higher Education, Civic Responsibility, and Democracy. Dungy is also a member of the Washington Higher Education Secretariat, representing leaders of 50 higher education associations, and she chairs its working group on persistence and completion. Dungy has worked more than 30 years in higher education. She has also served as associate director of the Curriculum and Faculty Development Network and coordinator of the National Diversity Network at the Association of American Colleges and Universities, as well as a senior administrator at the County College of Morris, New Jersey, and Montgomery College and Catonsville Community College in Maryland. Dungy’s successor will be Dr. Kevin Krueger who will assume the leadership of NASPA on March 15, 2012. He was chosen from an extensive pool of candidates and he brings 30 years experience in student affairs and team management to the position. Additionally, Krueger will be the first NASPA president which marks the change of the executive director title for the position.

National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) Okemos, Michigan
Joseph Spina, after more than two decades as the executive director for NACUFS, announced his retirement from the association, effective December 31, 2012. Spina made the announcement during the General Membership Assembly at the 2011 NACUFS National Conference in Grapevine, Texas. Spina is only the second executive director for NACUFS, joining the association in 1990. During his tenure, the association culture evolved from one based almost exclusively on volunteers to one based on a collaborative approach using volunteers, professional staff, and outside consultants.
