When the residence life department at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, realized that scores were lower than what had been delineated in their articulated goals, they developed learning outcomes, strategies, and a comprehensive assessment program, including use of the ACUHO-I/EBI assessments. Moreover, isolated results shed light on different areas and populations within their residence halls, allowing staff to quickly discover that returning students
were reporting a less satisfactory experience than were first-year students. “We are still using this information to enhance the experience of our more seasoned residents,” says Sara Kelly, assistant director of residential life/learning communities, who cites the implementation of living-learning communities, a developmental conduct model, and intentional housing placement as a small sample of their strategic arsenal for improvement.

EBI Users Reap Awards
At the 2012 ACUHO-I Annual Conference & Exposition, University of Wisconsin-Stout was named the recipient of the ACUHO-I/ EBI Assessment Award in recognition of their work for continuous improvement in higher education. The University of Wisconsin-Stout and, in particular, Amy McGovern, assistant director of university housing, were singled out for their commitment to analysis-driven improvement and innovative use of the ACUHO-I/EBI assessments to improve student and learning outcomes in their residence halls. The ACUHO-I/EBI Assessment Award recognizes an individual or institution that is committed to continuous improvement as evidenced by issue identification, change, and improvement. In addition to the plaque and recognition at the conference, the University of Wisconsin-Stout will receive an ACUHO-I/EBI Complete Assessment Package for 2012-13.
