Berthold: I agree that the future of
assignments will involve technology and, in particular, mobile applications. I cannot expect our students to be sitting in front of a desktop or laptop when they receive information; in fact they rarely are. We need to provide information and solutions for mobile devices while being careful not to exclude those who choose not to carry a smartphone or cannot afford one.
Phelps: I agree with everyone about the role that disabilities, roommates, and technology will play in all facets of assignments. I also think about how communication plays a role with students and their families. We are very clear about a step for medical considerations in our assignment processes and still had a wave of people, just before new and returning student check-in, bringing up medical
concerns that could have been shared much earlier with us. We were able to accommodate everyone, but if we had the chance to plan with these considerations in mind, we would have felt more prepared going into the academic year. In a world of Twitter, Facebook, and other social media, what can we do to capture their attention so they read things more thoroughly and respond accordingly?
Magura: I suppose that’s the million dollar question now, huh?
Nunan: I agree with Stacey and Kathryn on the impact of the Office of Accessible Education requests in the future. We also are going to have to consider new laws regarding accommodating students with learning disabilities by assigning them to single rooms as the new laws are put into effect. Magura: Let alone what rate we charge

Berthold: I also think there will
continue to be debate about the benefits of the randomly assigned roommate process versus the one using a roommate-matching algorithm. Regardless of how students are assigned, I think developing conflict management skills continues to be a priority. Students may choose their assignment based on cost rather than roommate preference, and we need to help them succeed in this new relationship.

Magura: I agree with Sean about roommates being more of a factor. I know that most of the students who live with us have never shared a room before, let alone know how to have conversations about resolving conflict. I have more discussions with parents and students about learning to live with a roommate than I do about
