CBORD Lights the Way with New App
Last October, The CBORD group released Pathlight, a new mobile safety escort tool for students. Using the app on either an Apple or Android device, students can initiate GPS tracking as they walk to their desired campus destination, while indicating an estimated arrival time. This information is sent to campus security, which displays a map of student icons and routes taken. Students have the option to press the “Help” button for assistance from the office, which will trigger an alarm and produce their ID photo and information for dispatch. Not meeting the expected trip duration time, suddenly traveling at high speed, or moving in the wrong direction can also trigger this alarm. For more information, visit www.cbord.com.

north Iowa Area community college

Cost: $24 million

North Iowa Area Community College has started rebuilding their current residential hall due to demand from students to maintain a competitive edge among the growing number of community colleges with state-of-the-art living accommodations. The new residence hall will provide the same number of beds (400), but will upgrade from a traditional dorm set up to three different options for suites: semisuites with two bedrooms, each with two beds; larger full suites, which are bigger with the same set up; and small semi-suites, which will provide two bedrooms, each with only one bed.

University Park, Pennsylvania Projected Opening: August 2013

Cost: $3 million

Architect and real estate firms EdR and Landmark Properties are building the Retreat at State College, cottage-style housing that will provide housing for 587 students. The 138 cottages will contain one to five bedrooms and are located 1.2 miles from the Penn State campus. The community will also have a resort-style pool, a large green space, recreational courts, an outdoor fire pit, a grilling area, and a clubhouse with fitness amenities, computer and gaming rooms, kitchens, and a spa.

Cost: $12.7 million

Renaissance Village will house 208 first-year students, and each carpeted room will have two extra-long twin beds along with movable furniture. The hall will contain a study lounge, T.V. room, computer lab, and laundry room with free services.

Oxford, Mississippi Projected Opening: August 2013

Cost: $37.6 million

Next fall, 668 Ole Miss students will be living at the Retreat at Oxford, a living community developed by EdR and Landmark Properties. With two- to five-bedroom cottages, the Retreat also features a swimming pool with cabañas and hammocks, tanning beds, a fitness center, and sports courts.
