Hello all,
What services does your campus provide for salting steps/sidewalks
for on-campus family housing? Is the expectation that tenants will
take responsibility for salting their own steps?
Thanks!

Austin’s Art Is
Transforming Students
Reflecting on personal identity and changing
one’s cultural perspective is a foundation for
transformative learning in college. The University
of Texas at Austin has created venues for this
cocurricular experience in the form of residence
museums. These galleries in residence halls
act as stimulating study spaces that incorporate
historical and artistic elements to engage students
in developing a greater understanding of their
environment. There are four galleries at the
Austin campus: Longhorn Art Series, Galleries of
Great Texas Women, Gallery of Texas Rivers, and
the Gallery of Texas Cultures.
In spring of 2012, the Division of Housing
and Food Services (DHFS) surveyed students
about their interactions with and what they had
learned from the Gallery of Texas Cultures in
Jester West residence hall. Known as the Gallery,
it has round tables and a piano, and its walls,
ceiling, and floors are decorated with murals and
other artifacts that depict Texas culture, including
population, geography, and Native American
tribes.
The survey results showed that 35 percent of
students had reflected on Texas history and 26
percent on their own cultural identity. Among
artifacts like floor maps and murals of Texas
industry, a wall of 32 panels on Texas’ immigrant
cultures had the biggest impact on students’
perspective. Students also reported that the
Gallery prompted them to reflect on diversity,
independence, ancestry, and their effects on
today’s society. For more information, visit http://
