operations. She most recently served
as the director of administration at
Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

William Zeller is a new senior
counseling specialist. Zeller joined
Scion following his retirement from
the University of California at Irvine
where he was the assistant vice
chancellor for student housing.

The University of Arizona
Tucson, Arizona
Nick Sweeton is the new senior director
for residence education. Sweeton
completed his bachelor’s degree at the

University of Massachusetts at Amherst
and master’s degree at Colorado State
University in Fort Collins. He comes to
Arizona from the University of Hawaii
at Manoa, where he was associate
director of student housing services. He
has also worked for the housing
programs at Humboldt State University
in Arcata, California, and New Mexico
State University in Las Cruces.

University of Florida
Gainesville, Florida
Omar Andujar is the new director for
the office of youth conference services.
Erin Ferraro is the new marketing
coordinator.
Joey Sammons is the new assistant
director of housing for human
resources.
Matthew Scruggs, former residence
life coordinator-Murphree Area, has
taken a position in the dean of
students office as the assistant director
of student conduct and conflict
resolution.
Jeremy Williamson is the new residence
life coordinator for Graham/Hume.

University of Nebraska Omaha
Omaha, Nebraska
Bill Pickett is the new senior director
for student involvement and will
assume direct leadership and

supervision for university housing and
the office of student organizations and
leadership. In this position, he will
continue to supervise the university
housing operations along with
leadership, student organizations, office
of Greek life, campus programming
board, and community engagement.
Pickett has been charged to create a
new and vibrant student involvement
office to benefit the students and
campus community. He holds both a
bachelor’s and a master’s degree from
Ball State University in Muncie,
Indiana, and he has worked in various
student affairs positions since 2000.

University of South Florida
Tampa, Florida
Ernie Olivares is the first director of
facilities for housing and residential
education. Olivares was previously
the assistant director of facilities and
operations for residence life at the
University of Southern Mississippi in
Hattiesburg. He is a retired Navy
veteran with 20 years of service. In
2010, Olivares earned his Certified
Educational Facilities Professional
(CEFP) credential from APPA:
Leadership in Educational Facilities
– the CEFP being the highest level
APPA credential. His 30 years of
experience includes disaster response
and recovery, project management,
new construction, campus planning,
and LEED-certified construction.

RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Humboldt State University
Arcata, California
John Capaccio, associate vice president of student affairs,
retired in March of 2013 after 35 years of service. It had been
reported in the last Talking Stick issue that he would be
retiring in August of 2013.

Rochester Institute of Technology
Rochester, New York
Chuck Lamb, director of residence life, will retire in July
16

2013 after serving in this role for 10 years. Lamb’s career in
student housing spans 40 years. He began as a resident
director at Bowling Green State University in Ohio and then
moved to Mansfield University in Pennsylvania as assistant
director of residence life. He then moved on to the director
of residence life position at the University of Southern
Maine in Portland for 10 years; to the University of Vermont
in Burlington for eight years as the assistant director for
financial management and operations; to Binghamton
University in New York for eight years as director of
university housing and residence life; and then finally to the
Rochester Institute of Technology.
