Dollars and Sense

Staff with relevant experience are rising to the
challenge of changing financial processes.
Trust the process. We’ve all heard that, right?
But what if the process is slow? Inefficient?
Costly? Or just a flat-out bad process? With
fewer resources and less time, campuses and
work groups across the world are starting
to ask these questions more often. Process
improvement groups are starting to pop up to
address these questions, and, more specifically,
they are popping up in offices that are
dedicated to the financial processes for campus
housing. One such group, at Oregon State
University in Corvallis, is called the Process
Improvement Team or, as they affectionately
refer to themselves, the PIT Crew. Issues

addressed by the PIT Crew range from form
design to e-commerce. On campuses where
official teams aren’t formed, the job is done by
staff who are dedicated to this kind of work.

firms to oil companies, the corporate world
is a common starting point for these more
process-oriented and financially minded
