On-campus housing is now provided at 25 percent of all community colleges in the United States, according to the American Association of Community Colleges. In a ten-year period, between 2000 and 2010, there were 43 community colleges that established oncampus housing. This type of housing is most common in Texas, where between 20 and 34 community colleges have on-campus housing available. Other states such as New Jersey, North Carolina, and Illinois do not offer it on their community college campuses. Many states have 11 or fewer community colleges with oncampus housing.
