LEED certification is awarded based on the
number of points a project earns. Projects
can qualify for four levels of certification:
Certified (40-49 points); Silver (50-59 points);
Gold (60-79 points); and Platinum (80 points
or more). Understanding the nuances of
each of the nine credit categories and bonus
credits is essential to achieve completion of
each category benchmark. Each main credit
category contains specific prerequisites,
credits, and minimal program requirements
that help design teams strategically pursue
the requirements for creating a green
building. To assist in following these
guidelines, many campuses turn to a LEEDaccredited professional: either a contracted
professional not associated with the project
or, more likely, someone on the architect team
contracted for the project.

not for their state.
