Brouillard-Bruce: As I stated earlier,
there is a dynamic by which those
without children end up getting
more work - either intentionally or
unintentionally. I've seen now, since
we've had kids, people asking about an
after-work meeting and immediately
following that up with "If you can
make it now that you have a kid." To
me that means, before I had a kid did I
have a choice?

TS: How can staff with kids find
harmony between their work life
and their home life?
Stone-Sewalish: Having a partner
in the field has really allowed me to
find that harmony. It's great to be with
someone that understands the nature
of the work. That said, I would argue
I'm a better supervisor and team member now that I am a parent. My focus
is sharper on the things that matter

both at home and at work. That doesn't
mean every day is easy, but I use my
time a lot differently and set priorities
in a new way. I'm candid when I have
to address something at home and
candid when I need to handle something in the office. Just being honest
about it has allowed for trust to be
built in all areas. It doesn't always feel
good, but at least it's real.

Basilio-Murray: I think that's very
dependent on the day. Some days I
feel like Super Mom and a dedicated
employee. Other days, I'm running
into the office to find spit-up on my
shirt. I find the most harmony when I
cut myself a little slack.
Barile: I've found some harmony by
bringing my daughter to work events.
That was actually my saving grace
during a two-week period when my
babysitter was sick and my partner had

a ton of evening commitments for his
job. This meant I had to figure stuff
out, and quickly. Suddenly I was bringing my 7-year-old to RA programs and
to a class I taught and setting her up
with an iPad or an activity while I was
in an evening meeting. There's an
extreme privilege to having an older
kid! She thought I was a rockstar for
all of the events I brought her to, and
she didn't lose a connection. I think I
struggle more with really being home
when I'm home and not feeling like
I'm missing out on something.

Brouillard-Bruce: I think we are in a
unique spot working in housing, and
I currently live in housing with my
child, to blur that line a bit and make
the family part of the housing experience. Giving my child the chance
to feel the energy and excitement of
college housing is something I look
