Golemo: During Harvey, family,
friends, and neighbors had to deal
with total devastation. We weren't completely sure what condition our house
was in. Professionally, I felt energized.
We had just kicked a lot of butt! In the
case of Harvey, we got hit with a sevenday relocation/evacuation to College
Station the week of move-in, which
happened after Fall Community Leader
Training. So, essentially, my staff had
worked the last 21 days without a day
off. Personal recovery has to include
some balance and clearance time.
TS: What does recovery look like for
your housing facilities?

Kimbrough: We were fortunate to have
some facilities staff on campus who
could begin work on the damage to the
residence halls as soon as the storm
passed. One of our apartment complexes, Bayou Oaks, took on some water,
and students had to be evacuated and
relocated during the storm. Some items
have been difficult to find and replace,
such as cabinetry, causing some delays
in the facilities recovery process.
Ceballos: Along with our partners in
facilities, we were able to inspect all
rooms, and repairs were made by the
time students returned. Thankfully,
all of them were able to return to their
rooms when we reopened. Outside of
our residential areas, the focus was
on clearing debris. Two thousand
tons of debris were removed from our
campus.

Paulick: The residential life team
did a walkthrough of every space in
on-campus housing. The issues were
identified in three levels of priority. Critical/life safety issues were
all resolved before students staying
in shelters were allowed to return to
their rooms. Facilities then addressed
all other issues, removed storm prep
(shutters, screens, etc.), installed
outdoor furniture, etc. Recovery also
