UCA police facilitate several safety trainings for staff throughout the year. PHOTO COURTESY OF UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS host similar spontaneous Q&A sessions with police to address any recent events that may impact the student population. The campus police department offers personal safety classes and participates in hall ice cream socials in order to reinforce their positive presence in the community. Christian Robinson, a residence director, is developing a new social media initiative with police that involves live streaming a ride-along with an officer to show residents a typical day in his or her life. Robinson believes that he can use the combined power of social media and the popularity of the TV show "Cops" to create a program that would be a big hit with residents, while also portraying the important work that police do. A strong relationship with campus police can only enhance the dedication and commitment of housing staff to their residential community. Housing staff are typically the true first-responders to many campus crises and thus need a high level of emergency response training. "You are the help until help arrives!" says Lachowsky.
