Higher Education Staffing
CUPA-HR research examining the representation of
racial/ethnic minorities among administrators in
higher education shows that, while 27 percent of
college graduates are minorities, only 14 percent
of higher education administrators are. However,
among higher education categories, student affairs
departments are most successful in this regard,
with approximately 22 percent of its administrators
representing racial or ethnic minorities.

college, a responsibility
that often falls to student
affairs departments. As the
CUPA-HR report on student
affairs notes, "Student affairs
must adapt to the realities
of a more diverse student
body - one that may require
more specialized attention
but be less likely to utilize
traditional on-campus
services."

spanning student activities, student centers, Greek
life, career services, student counseling, recreation
and intramurals, first-year experience, campus
ministries, multicultural and LGBTQ student affairs,
conduct, and student housing.

STUDENT HOUSING STAFFING
Looking more closely at CUPA-HR figures show how
student housing departments have an even higher rate of
diversity with approximately 26 percent of the housing
staff members being a minority. The following shows the
breakdown of staff diversity in the housing positions.
