David Hibbler, Jr., University of
South Florida

avid Hibbler, Jr., currently
serves as the associate director for residential education at the University of South
Florida. He earned a B.S. in business
marketing from Butler University, an M.S.
in student affairs in higher education,
and currently is a Ph.D. candidate at the
University of South Florida in the Higher
Education Administration program. His
research interests include studies of racial
battle fatigue, the strain experienced by
black student affairs administrators, and
disruption of the preconceived socialized
narratives on students with marginalized
identities. He is a proud member of Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Hibbler has been an important member of the campus's Residential Curriculum Committee, including serving as chair
for the Student Staff Recruitment and Selection Committee. There he helped create
and assess a process that recruited resident
assistants who viewed their role as educators rather than just policy enforcers. Later he would be tasked to lead the training
for the department with a focus on creat-

ing a community of scholar-practitioners,
providing staff at all levels with both the
theoretical and practical foundations to be
successful in their jobs. In addition, in his
role as associate director he provides direct
supervision, training, and evaluation of
three area assistant directors and indirect
supervision of 16 residence life coordinators, 7 graduate assistants, and 189 student
staff who all implement the residential
curriculum to promote student success.

Joanne Goldwater, St. Mary's College
of Maryland

to the regions and the Executive Board.
She was president of the Mid-Atlantic Association of College and University Housing Officers (MACUHO) as well as chair
of the ACUHO-I Foundation.
Among her honors and recognitions
is the tribute paid by MACUHO when
they created the Joanne Goldwater Distinguished Senior Level Professional Award.
She also has received the ACUHO-I Herstory Award and was inducted into the
ACUHO-I Foundation's Parthenon Society in 2011. What makes this latest award
particularly meaningful to Goldwater is
the mentorship relationship she enjoyed
with the award's namesake. In 1991 she
participated in the first ACUHO-I National Housing Training Institute, where James
Grimm was her assigned mentor.

oanne Goldwater is the associate
dean for retention and student
success at St. Mary's College of
Maryland. In this role she is responsible
for helping the institution create a retention strategy and connecting students with
the people, programs, activities, resources,
and support systems they need to be successful and to persist to graduation.
She has been a devout volunteer
leader for ACUHO-I and the profession.
She has presented nearly 100 workshops,
roundtables, keynotes, and webinars to
regional and international audiences. She
served as the regional affiliation director
on the ACUHO-I Executive Board, where
she was the liaison with the North American-based regional leadership and identified and articulated issues of importance
