noteworthies PROMOTIONS HONORS NEW HIRES Susan Martin has been appointed EVP, general counsel and corporate secretary of Wisconsin Energy Corp. She succeeds James Fleming, who retired as EVP and general counsel at the end of March. Williams has named Jim Scheel SVP of corporate strategic development, with responsibility for enterpriselevel business development and customer relationship management. Chuck Cloninger James Fleming Susan Martin Barbara Nick George Lowe has joined AGA as VP, federal affairs. Most recently, Lowe was the principal of a full-service consulting ﬁrm that helped companies and government organizations develop strategies on issues including policy planning, legislative advocacy and crisis management. Lowe also has served in staff leadership roles for several members of Congress. Black & Veatch has appointed John Chevrette president of its Management Consulting Division. He will lead the company’s efforts to address key challenges affecting natural gas, water and electric utilities. Entergy Corp.’s Gary Taylor, group president of utility operations, plans to retire from the company May 31. His successor will be named at a later date. Robert “Bob” Sloan, EVP and general counsel, has decided to retire as general counsel. Replacing Sloan is Marcus Brown, who was elected Jan. 27 by the company’s board of directors to the position of SVP and general counsel. Itron Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire privately held SmartSynch Inc. in a transaction valued at $100 million; the parties expect the transaction to close in the second quarter of 2012. SmartSynch, headquartered in Jackson, Miss., provides point-to-point smart grid solutions that use a cellular network for communications. The Laclede Group Inc.’s board of directors has named William E. Nasser chairman of the board and appointed Laclede Group President Suzanne Sitherwood CEO, each succeeding Douglas H. Yaeger, who retired as chairman and CEO on Feb. 1. Barbara A. Nick has been appointed president of Minnesota Energy Resources and Michigan Gas Utilities, two natural gas distribution subsidiaries of Integrys Energy Group. Nick succeeds Chuck Cloninger, who was recently named president of Wisconsin Public Service and Upper Peninsula Power Co. Phil Bussey has joined Puget Sound Energy in the new position of SVP and chief customer ofﬁcer. He will focus on the services PSE offers to its more than 1.5 million electric and natural gas customers in western Washington and be responsible for PSE’s customer solutions, corporate affairs, and federal and state government relations functions. Ian Perrin has joined Structural Integrity Associates as VP of fossil plant services.
