The goals of the program were to provide
training, information, and resources to
enable women to grow professionally,
expand their networks, and collaborate
with industry leaders. Key session topics
included leadership and networking, and
small-group breakout sessions covered
topics such as grant writing, burnout,
work-life integration, social media, patient
engagement, negotiating, and imposter
syndrome. During the sessions, interdisciplinary women leaders shared their
experiences, tips for overcoming gender
gaps, and advice they would give to their
younger selves.

WIN ADA speakers and ADA staff came
together on World Diabetes Day to prepare
for the Career Development Program.

"What made this program so exciting was the fact that many WIN ADA members
were involved in the planning process-from soliciting session topics and speakers to
organizing the meeting planning committee," said Darleen Sandoval, PhD, associate
professor at the University of Michigan and co-chair of the WIN ADA Advisory Group.
"We wanted to ensure that this program would align with the interests of our members,
and we were thrilled about their participation in organizing it."
Attendees at the program learned career development skills they can directly apply in
clinical and research settings. Additionally, three patient advocates joined the breakout
session on patient engagement to share insights into patient-provider communication
and patient-centered care.
The ADA is excited about the success of this program and looks forward to organizing more events and activities to advance women in diabetes research and care. The
Association would like to thank the WIN ADA Indianapolis Planning Committee members for their efforts in organizing the program: Mary de Groot, PhD, Linda DiMeglio,
MD, MPH, MA, Brigid Gregg, MD, Tamara Hannon, MD, MS, Darleen Sandoval, PhD,
and Kanakadurga Singer, MD, MA.
This program was made possible by the generous support of Lilly Diabetes.
