ProOne Cuts Drilling Time In Tough Horizontal Well
HOUSTON-Using the latest version
of the ProOne XPL+ drilling mud lubricant, a West Texas operator eliminated
five days from the time required to drill a
horizontal well with a total depth of
21,300 feet. ProOne adds that the additive
significantly reduced mud costs by enabling the operator to switch from an
oil-based mud to a water-based mud.
ProOne says this is one of many
success stories for the additive, which
has been applied in 700 wells across
North America. The lubricant has 50
times the film strength of conventional
lubricants and is attracted to, rather than

repelled by, the extreme temperatures
and pressures encountered down hole,
the company reports.
By eliminating friction in the drilling
system, the lubricant significantly improves
penetration rates, reduces torque 20-50
percent, extends equipment and drill bit
life, and helps free stuck pipe, ProOne
states. The lubricant works in low concentrations and enables companies to
switch from oil-based muds to waterbased muds, the company concludes.

Williston Initiative Aims To Streamline Logistics
WILLISTON, N.D.-To reduce operators' costs and increase efficiencies while
bolstering local economies, Williston
Economic Development has launched the
Enhanced Bakken Supply Chain Initiative.
"Oil and gas operators in the Williston
Basin face a higher break-even crude
price because of higher costs and inefficiencies in the Bakken supply chain,"
says Shawn Wenko, Williston Economic
Development's executive director. "On
the other hand, we have regional manufacturers and logistics companies that
can serve the oil and gas industry in a
way that reduces costs and turnaround
times as this market begins to mature."
To kick off the initiative, Williston
Economic Development has partnered
with DAWA Solutions Group to produce

the Manufacturing and Logistics (ManLog)
Conference, to be held March 25-26 in
Williston. According to organizers, the
conference aims to bring together regional
manufacturers, machinists, suppliers, commodity sources, logistics companies and
other stakeholders with the oil and gas
industry to explore mutually beneficial
business development opportunities.
"We need to start connecting the dots
with regional manufacturers that can deliver more cost-effective products and
services," says Jeff Zarling, president of
DAWA Solutions Group. "The result is a
win-win, with reduced costs for operators
and economic development, and diversification for companies and communities
throughout the region."

Facility Provides Water
To Oklahoma Operators
GRADY COUNTY, OK.-Select Energy Services has opened the Pecan Hill
Water Solutions Facility in southeastern
Grady County, Ok.
According to the company, the facility
houses a saltwater disposal well. In addition, it has access to 25,000 barrels a day
of freshwater through a buried pipeline
and can distribute that water through a
freshwater trucking depot.
In 2013, Select Energy Services and
Access Midstream developed the idea of
running freshwater through an underground
pipeline to supply water reliably to local
exploration, drilling and production companies, Select relates. Toward that end,
Select and Access say they repurposed a
segment of a 13-mile, six-inch steel hydrocarbon pipeline to allow for movement
of freshwater to the facility, which already
contained the saltwater disposal well.
"The ability to transfer 25,000 barrels
of freshwater a day safely to an area in
need and provide a clean, safe and convenient disposal option for saltwater is a
big step for the region," remarks Chad
Mitchell, Select regional vice president.
"We look forward to the solutions this
facility provides to our customers and
the local community."

On Measuring Oil, Gas
NORMAN, OK.-The 2015 International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement, to be held May 12-14 at the Cox
Communications Center in Oklahoma
City, will feature more than 200 lecture
classes and 50 hands-on workshops covering measurement and flow control.
The school says this year's event will
be the 90th it has held in affiliation with
the University of Oklahoma since the
event began in 1924. In addition to lectures
