Swire To Fund Growth Of Purestream Services
SALT LAKE CITY-Purestream
Services LLC and John Swire and Sons
Inc., a subsidiary of John Swire & Sons
Ltd., have agreed to a capital funding
transaction that will allow Purestream
to continue expanding its activities in
the oil field water treatment market.
Purestream notes it was formed in
2010 with a focus on designing and
building water treatment systems to
treat produced and fracture flow-back
water for discharge and reuse. The company says it has developed state-of-theart, vapor recompression-based brine
concentration and desalination technology, as well as single cell induced-gas
flotation systems for water reuse.
John Swire & Sons Ltd. describes
itself as the U.K.-based parent company
of the Swire group, a diversified global

group that provides support services to
the U.S. oil industry through Swire Oilfield Services.
The agreement calls for Swire to
provide funding to Purestream that will
enable the company to maximize the
business opportunities arising from the
robust demand for dynamic water treatment and water management capabilities,
the companies say. They add that Andy
Hunter, chairman of Swire Water Solutions, will join Purestream's board.
"This agreement comes at a great
time for Purestream, as we will benefit
from Swire's U.S. and international
presence and expertise in the onshore
market, enabling us to better meet the
needs of our customers. The partnership
also will enable us to tap into Swire's
customer base, increasing our reach in
the U.S. market," says Purestream Chief
Executive Officer Neil Richardson.
Hunter adds that the agreement will
allow Swire Oilfield Services to expand
the range of products it provides.

Operator Saves Thousands With PetroQuip Toe Sleeve
HOUSTON-PetroQuip Energy Services, a service company that specializes
in designing and manufacturing downhole
pressure control devices, has run its BigFoot toe sleeve in a horizontal completion
for an independent operator.
According to PetroQuip, the operator
requested a toe sleeve that was more reliable and flexible than others so he could
test the system as many times as needed,
for as long as needed, and at any pressure
required. In addition to achieving these
goals, BigFoot eliminates the need for
coiled tubing to be run to initiate circulation, PetroQuip says.
Eight days after BigFoot was installed
and cemented in the Anadarko Basin
well, the operator rigged up to test the
casing with a test pressure of 9,500 psi,
then bled down to 0 psi, PetroQuip relates.
The first casing test was successful, so
the operator chose to cycle through the
remaining casing test chambers by pressuring up to 8,500 psi, then bleeding to 0
psi. The sleeve was opened during the

final cycle at 4,600 psi. The operator
pumped into the formation with an injection rate of 11.5 barrels a minute with
a total of 150 barrels injected before
shutting down, PetroQuip details.
The operator reportedly saved tens of
thousands of dollars and many hours of
work.

Preferred Sands Sells Mine
To Asset Disposition Firms
BOSTON-A joint venture between
Gordon Brothers Group and Hilco Industrial, a unit of Hilco Global, has acquired the assets of Preferred Sands Canada's Hanson Lake facility.
Preferred Sands Canada mines sand
for U.S. hydraulic fracturing. It specializes
in premium silica sand, resin-coated proppants, and high-quality industrial sand,
as well as environmentally sensitive varieties, the joint venture notes.
Preferred Sands sold the Hanson Lake
facility following a decision to exit its
Canadian operations, Gordon and Hilco
relate. They say the acquired assets include
$30 million at cost with 300 pieces of
earth-moving equipment, temporary housing and storage structures, silos, screening
and processing equipment, construction
equipment, and conveyors.
"We are pleased to be able to provide
an exit to Preferred Sands from its Canadian operations so it can pursue its goforward strategy," says Jim Lightburn,
managing director of Gordon's commercial
and industrial division.

Exterran Establishes Shop To Fix Compressor Valves
HOUSTON-After opening a compressor
valve and repair center in Gaylord, Mi.,
Exterran is providing valve rebuild and replacement services to the Midwest and the
greater Northeast, including Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
To minimize downtime, Exterran says
the shop offers an exchange program for
most standard compressors, through which
it will provide a new valve in exchange
for an old one. The shop also rebuilds
compressor valves and packing cases, a

process that involves disassembling a
unit, cleaning it, checking tolerances, and
retooling and rebuilding the valves to the
manufacturer's specifications and tolerances, Exterran says.
