Early Orders Show Need For Stuck Pipe Insurance

HOUSTON-Churchill Drilling Tools
has delivered the first of its HyPRTM
HoleSaverTM hydraulic pipe recovery
systems.
Two major operators have selected
the cost-saving tool for projects in the
North Sea, while another plans to deploy
it in the Gulf of Mexico, Churchill reports, noting that onshore operators
have identified scenarios where the system would be applicable.
The HoleSaver is the world's first
hydraulic pipe recovery system and offers a faster, simpler and safer recovery
method, Churchill says.
"The first orders for the HyPR HoleSaver confirm the need for simple technology that lowers the cost of drilling,
and we are delighted to have received
such a positive reaction so quickly,"
Director Mike Churchill comments.

"An operator who has concerns over
stuck pipe can ensure against excessive
costs by running the HoleSaver in the
drill string to recover the program more
quickly should things go wrong," he
continues. "The low cost of running
the tool, which requires no specialist
mobilization, combined with rapid recovery, will provide significant cost reductions in these challenging wells."
The HoleSaver consists of a full
strength sub positioned in the drill string,
which is severed in an hour, Churchill
reports. He says a jetting dart is launched
and lands inside the sub and, after a
relatively short period of pumping, the
sub parts easily under a small loading,
offering a perfect fish-neck or immediate
side-track cementing options.

operators can limit the cost of stuck pipe. The company explains that the HoleSaver
sub is easy to part, which allows the pipe to be recovered and side-track cementing or
fishing operations to begin immediately.

Dissolving Plugs Offer Way To Cut Completion Costs

HOUSTON-Schlumberger has introduced the Infinity dissolvable plug-andperf system, which uses fully degradable
fracture balls and seats instead of plugs
to isolate zones during well stimulation.
"The ball and the seat assemblies
both fully dissolve on contact with common completion fluids," reports Olivier
Le Peuch, Schlumberger's completions
president. "As a result, the well is left
with full-bore access and customers can
bring production on line faster, more efficiently and more cost effectively."
The first-ever full-bore interventionless
plug-and-perf system eliminates the need
for milling operations and leaves nothing
behind in the wellbore, Schlumberger
says. As a result, no plug debris is produced to surface, where it can interfere

the technique eliminates lateral length

Aid Northeast Drillers

LAFAYETTE, CO.-CTAP LLC has
opened an oil country tubular goods pipe
yard in Steubenville, Oh., to support Marcellus and Utica drilling activity. The facility has inbound access by truck, rail,
and barge, and employs local haulers to
deliver material to drilling locations in
the region.
CTAP describes itself as a full service
OCTG distribution company engaged in
storing and transporting casing and tubing
within the United States.

Abstract Count Sets Stage
For Fantastic URTeC Event
TULSA-The 2015 Unconventional
Resources Technology Conference
(URTeC), a multidisciplinary unconventional conference to be held July 20-22
in San Antonio, has received a record
number of abstracts at 764. The conference
is a collaboration among the Society of
Petroleum Engineers, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and
the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.
"This is more than a 10 percent increase
in abstracts submitted over last year," reports SEG Program co-Chair Gene Sparkman, vice president of technology transfer
for Lumina Technologies Inc. "The submissions also included more geophysical-focused papers, which will continue
to strengthen the conference's true multidisciplinary context."
In 2014, the conference drew more than
5,000 oil and gas professionals, representing
a 20 percent growth since the inaugural
2013 conference. URTeC states that more
than 230 companies exhibited products,
technologies and services for successful
unconventional play development that year.
"With a record number of abstracts
submitted, URTeC is becoming widely
recognized as the premier sharing venue
for the cross-disciplinary best practices
that define success in unconventional
