D&L Packers, Bridge Plugs Now Bear API Monogram
TULSA-D&L Oil Tools' quality management system has been granted API Q1
certification from the American Petroleum
Institute. The company adds that it also
has been awarded an 11D1 monogram license for packers and bridge plugs.
These certifications show that D&L
lives up to the highest standards in quality
management and manufacturing, D&L
says. The company points out that only
two independent manufacturers in the Unit-

ed States have earned an 11D1 monogram
for both packers and bridge plugs.
"We have been proud of the quality of
our products for more than 25 years," comments D&L Chief Operating Officer Dan
Eslicker. "This certification validates our
promise that we provide the highest standard
of product and service to our customers."

Liberty's New Quiet FleetTM Lessens Fracturing Noise
DENVER-Liberty Oilfield Services has
introduced its new Quiet FleetTM, which
the company says incorporates patentpending Liberty-developed sound reduction
technology into fracturing technology to
dramatically reduce hydraulic fracturing
operations' noise.
Liberty says Quiet Fleet reduces noise
levels by a factor of three compared with a
conventional fracturing fleet, making it
more effective and affordable than sound
walls. Noise is reduced without any impact
to operational performance or time requirements, Liberty reports, adding that Quiet

Fleet incorporates a sophisticated threestage fire suppression system on each unit.
According to Liberty, Quiet Fleet was
deployed in the Denver-Julesburg Basin
for Extraction Oil & Gas with results meeting or exceeding all expectations. The
Quiet Fleet completed 210 fracture stages
in the first 10 days of operation.
Extraction President Matt Owens says,
"Quiet Fleet marks a new era for completion
equipment design. (It is) one of the best
advancements I have seen."

U.S. Chamber Launches Voter Education Project
WASHINGTON-The U.S. Chamber of
Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy has launched the "Energy Accountability Series" voter education project.
The group says the series conveys what
would happen if candidates' stated positions
on energy became law. "It is election time,
which means that candidates and their supporters are making statements regarding
their policy agendas if they are elected,"
the COC says. "Voters should have the
opportunity to be armed with factual information about the impacts of what the
candidates propose so that they can make
the right choices for themselves, their families, and their businesses."
The first report in the series, released in
late August, is titled What If . . . Energy
Production Was Banned on Federal Lands
and Waters?
"Did you know that production on
federal lands and waters still accounts for
25 percent of all oil, natural gas and coal
produced?" the COC poses. "Our report
finds that proposals from Hillary Clinton,
Bernie Sanders and others to ban production
on federal lands and waters would cost
America hundreds of thousands of jobs
and billions in revenue."

The group adds that banning production
on federal lands would hit Western and
Gulf Coast states especially hard, and could
move production overseas, which would
undermine U.S. national security and impact
consumer prices.

GR Energy Makes Logs
As Drill String Trips Out
HOUSTON-Cordax Evaluation Technologies Inc. has engaged GR Energy
Services as a preferred partner to offer
logging-while-tripping services in the United
States, GR reports.
According to GR, the patented formation
evaluation technique allows wireline-quality
open-hole logs to be recorded immediately
after drilling has been completed while
the pipe is being tripped to surface. Possible
measurements include gamma ray, spectral
gamma ray, compensated neutron, compensated density, and dual induction logs,
the company details.
GR indicates the technique has been
proven through more than 600 runs. The
logging devices meet all formation evaluation requirements for porosity and resistivity
measurements, and the data can be analyzed
to position perforation clusters within fracture stages geologically rather than geometrically, the company says.
"Combining LWT data with GR's highperformance perforating solutions offers
oil and gas companies an opportunity to
improve their completions by optimizing
hydraulic fracturing operations based on
the changes in rock properties from toe to
heel," comments Billy Anthony, GR's senior
vice president. "This fit-for-purpose technology gives our clients the information
they need to better engineer completions,
and ultimately increase the production of
their assets."

Duraband® NC Hard-Banding Fixes Drill String
CLEVELAND-Duraband® NC hardbanding from Postle Industries Inc. has
rescued a damaged drill string, Postle reports.
According to the company, an offshore
Russian drilling contractor's drill pipe
showed signs of wear and traverse cracking
of a popular titanium hard-banding product.
Duraband NC, a noncracking hard-band,
was chosen for reapplication, and Hardbanding Solutions Europe was asked to
oversee the removal, tool joint repair and
application of Postalloy Duraband NC.
The old hard-banding on box and pin tool
joints was removed down to the tool joint
base material by machining, the company
relates, adding that magnetic particle inspection (MPI) ensured all cracks were
removed.

Following recommended preheat temperatures, Postle says its HBBU, a low
alloy hard-banding wire that attaches to
the physical properties of the tool joint,
was applied to recover the original tool
joint outside diameter dimensions. A further
machining procedure was conducted to recover exact OD dimensions.
Then, Postle recounts, during a process
in which MPI twice confirmed no new
cracks, Duraband NC was applied over
the Postalloy HBBU, followed by slow
cooling procedures to ensure that heat-affected zone hardness values did not exceed
40 Rockwell C.
