Day two opens with another executive
forum, this time on "Urban Development:
How to be a Better Neighbor." As oil and
gas activity moves into developed areas
(and vice versa) noise, odor, nuisance
issues and safety concerns become today's
top issues. Panelists include Bart Brookman,
president and CEO at PDC Energy; Matt
Owens, president of Extraction Oil & Gas
LLC; and Chris Wright, chairman and
CEO at Liberty Oilfield Services. They
are on the front lines of the latest technology
that enables companies to operate in rapidly
urbanizing areas and have firsthand experience negotiating the innovative agreements
between operators, surface developers and
local communities.
Next, we would be remiss if the conference passed without a panel on "Energy
and Climate Change." This political football
has left everyone seeking balance, and increasingly, many believe that the business

community must lead any significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Our
panel will assess the role companies can
play in perhaps paving the way for a muchneeded bipartisan climate breakthrough.

the weeds on certain topics, we highly

presentations, which will include a conversation about the Western States' Natural
Gas Initiative and a question-and-answer
session with leading Colorado state lawmakers. Attendees also should be sure to

gubernatorial candidates.
Our final panel will discuss "GameChanging Oil and Gas Technology" from
the past 10 years. Work being done in
the DJ, Permian and Bakken has revolutionized the oil and natural gas industry.
These breakthroughs have allowed operators to survive recent downturns. We

will examine those lessons, and how
these same technologies can be utilized
to make our industry more efficient, safer,
cleaner and successful.
The Energy Summit will conclude
with a deep dive into the 2018 election,
which will have broad implications for
the future of Colorado's oil and gas industry. There is potential for anti-oil-andgas ballot initiatives, but other candidate
races also may have an impact. We will
start the discussion with a risk assessment
and discuss the broader electoral trends.

and political clients, including oil and gas interests. Prior to that, Haley spent more than 20
years in the communications field, including 13 years at "The Denver Post," where he was
the editorial page editor. Haley has a B.A. in journalism from the University of Wyoming and
sits on the Advisory Council to the USO Denver, the Colorado Advisory Committee for the
U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and the Advisory Council for the University of ColoradoDenver Global Energy Management program.

Sara Reynolds is vice president of operations for the Colorado Oil & Gas Association,
where she oversees its daily operations, including financial management, membership development, programs and events. Reynolds has 15 years of association management experience, including serving as executive director of Housing Colorado, a membership-based
association serving the needs of the affordable housing industry in Colorado, and membership services manager at the Colorado Municipal League, representing municipal interests
throughout Colorado. Reynolds has a master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado, and currently serves on the advisory board for the School of Public Affairs at the University of Colorado.
