Compact New ESP Motor Cuts Power Consumption
HOUSTON-Baker Hughes, a GE company, says its Magnefficient™ permanent
magnet motor (PMM) reduces electric
submersible pumps' power consumption
and lowers overall lifting costs.
Traditional ESP motor energy consumption accounts for as much as 30 percent of ESP system efficiency losses,
BHGE calculates. The company says the
Magnefficient PMM eliminates induction
losses, lowering system power consumption
as much as 20 percent and reducing motor
power loss by as much as 67 percent.
The motor also delivers a higher
power density and helps eliminate the

need for tandem connections, BHGE
says, a boon for reliability and installation
speed. According to the company, the
PMM's high energy density and shorter
motor mean it can be placed deeper in
slimhole and deviated wellbores and
closer to production zones, providing
operational flexibility and improving
recovery rates through greater reservoir
pressure drawdown.

3DSO® Plunger Sensor Now Easier To Conﬁgure
FREDERICK, CO.-PCS Ferguson, part
of Apergy™, announces it has upgraded its
3DSO® plunger arrival sensor to enable
on-site adjustment without a computer.
Operators can adjust the sensitivity potentiometer from a range of 20 percent to 100
percent and the pulse length potentiometer
from two to 30 seconds, Apergy details.
The 3DSO was introduced in 2012
and is mounted on the surface lubricator.

Seminar Gathers Experts
On Prices, Exit Strategies
DALLAS-Texas Energy Update Inc.
says this year's edition of its annual seminar
for independent oil and gas producers,
scheduled to be held from 7:30 a.m. to
noon on Oct. 26 at the Belo Mansion in
Dallas, will explore ways to leverage current
trends for competitive exit strategies.
The seminar will kick off with a presentation by Ed Hirs, managing director
of Hillhouse Resources LLC, titled "Oil
Price, IPOs and How Not To Hedge."
Texas Energy Update says he will be followed by a panel on regional pricing
trends featuring Keith Barnett of ARM
Energy, Greg Haas of Stratas Advisors,
and Bill Pacilio of East West Bank.
Later, a panel of private equity experts
will discuss exit strategies. Participating

Clariant Upgrades Facility To Better Serve Permian
MIDLAND-Specialty chemical provider
Clariant reports it has almost doubled the
size of the laboratory at its Midland facility
while equipping it with advanced research
and automation equipment. The company
says these upgrades will increase sample
activity undertaken for Permian Basin producers as much as 45 percent over the preexisting test center.
Clariant says the new laboratory is
unique within North America for having
onsite access to two inductively coupled
plasma optical emission spectrometry units,
as well as state-of-the-art solids identification
equipment, including x-ray diffraction and
x-ray fluorescence. This high-quality equipment will allow chemical specialists to
process as many as 7,000 lab samples a
month, Clariant estimates. The company

says it will leverage this capability to
rapidly develop solutions that reduce total
costs associated with flow assurance, asset
integrity, and oil/water quality issues.
The Midland facility also now has a
blending plant that provides security of
supply and the flexibility to produce bespoke products, Clariant continues. The
company adds that an upgraded tank
farm, a 10-bay fleet maintenance facility
and enhanced sales offices will augment
its Permian Basin service.
