Technical Sessions
The opening session is one of dozens
on a technical agenda that leverages the
13 sponsoring societies' collective knowledge and covers topics "from the wellbore
to topsides and everything in between."
According to organizers, more than 350
peer-selected papers will be presented in
50 technical sessions, including eight
featured panel sessions, along with two
dozen topical breakfasts and luncheons.
Technical sessions get under way Monday morning at 9:30 with six concurrent
sessions on model-based digitization of
engineering systems ("digital twins"); robotics technology in offshore drilling, inspection and sensing; managing the integrity
of floating systems; characterizing submerged archaeological resources, methods
of wind load estimation, and geotechnical
considerations for offshore renewables.
Monday afternoon's sessions from
2:00-4:30 are highlighted by a panel discussion of how venture capital investment
is driving deepwater innovation, and how
technology cross-pollination and integration are enabling the digital oil field of
the future. Moderator is Chevron Senior
Adviser Greg Kusinski. Panelists include
Indranil Roy, president and chief executive
officer of UniPolar Technology; Greg
Powers, vice president for global innovation at Halliburton; James Sledzik,
managing director of Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures; Kemal Anbarci, vice president and managing executive of Chevron
Technology Ventures; Ram Shenoy, chairman of WellDiver; and Victor Liu, president of Hunt Energy.
Other Monday afternoon technical sessions focus on shallow site characterization
for offshore projects, artificial intelligence
and machine learning, advances in subsea
production and processing technology, soilstructure interaction modeling, and the
fast-track development of the $20 billion
Libra ultradeepwater field offshore Brazil.

Tuesday's agenda again begins at 9:30
a.m. and features seven concurrent sessions,
including a panel discussion on liquefied
natural gas and the future of global gas
markets. Also moderated by Chevron's
Kusinski, the panel includes Thomas Shattuck, lead analyst at Deloitte Services'
center for energy solutions; Jason Bennett,
partner and head of the global projects
group at Baker Potts; Josh Loftus, president
of Mexico Pacific Limited; Michael Speltz,
corporate strategic planning lead for global
gas market analysis at Chevron; Renee
Pirrong, manager of research and analysis
at Tellurian; and Robert Ineson, executive

director for global LNG at IHS Markit.
Also scheduled for Tuesday morning
are technical sessions on advances in
subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines;
case studies of digitization deployments
in applications such as electric submersible
pumps, floating production units and subsea
systems; flow assurance engineering best
practices and lessons learned; using smart
and nanomaterials such as coatings and
cements to improve performance; systems
engineering in oil and gas; and reducing
the cost of offshore wind energy projects.
Seven concurrent sessions are scheduled
for Tuesday afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m.
