EcoVapor Units Help Shell
Minimize Permian Flaring
DENVER-EcoVapor Recovery Systems' ZerO2 oxygen removal system
helped Shell reduce flaring from its Permian Basin operations by 80%, says Amir
Gerges, Shell's Permian vice president.
The ZerO2 system reduces flaring by
removing oxygen from gas captured in
tank battery vapor recovery systems,
which is a valuable high-Btu stream, to
ensure the stream will consistently meet
pipeline specifications and be sold, ERS
describes. The company says its solution
increases revenues, enhances site environmental compliance and improves safety
by limiting tank vapor pressures.
Shell has made ZerO2 part of its standard
central processing facility design in the
Permian, ERS says, and the supermajor
has increased its vapor processing capacity
from 6.0 MMcf/d at the end of 2018 to
more than 20 MMcf/d. The oxygen removal
units can be all-electric (using lease power
or gensets), are mounted on skids, and
have a small footprint, so they can be installed on any production pad, ERS says.
The company adds that they have no moving parts and are extremely reliable.

Weatherford Debuts Tool
For Single-Trip Sidetracks
BAAR, SWITZERLAND-Weatherford International PLC has introduced
the AlphaST™, which it presents as the
world's only single-trip open-hole cementing and sidetrack system.
"AlphaST means (operators) will never
again need to sidetrack from a cement
plug. It enables operators to avoid the
cost and time of setting a cement plug,
waiting on cement and time drilling,"
says Dean Bell, the company's president
of well construction, adding the operating
expense savings equal days of rig time.
For one Permian Basin operator, previous sidetrack attempts with conventional
cement plugs failed in the hard formation,
requiring multiple trips and damaging
directional bottomhole assemblies, Weatherford relates. After switching to the AlphaST, the company says the operator
drilled off the formation in a single trip,
saving 29 hours of rig time and $100,000.

Hexion To Coat Proppant At Black Mountain Mine
HOUSTON-Hexion Inc.'s oil field
technology group and Black Mountain
Sand LLC report they are partnering to
produce resin-coated proppant in the
Permian Basin.
Through the partnership, Hexion
will deploy its Voyager mobile resin
coating service at Black Mountain's El
Dorado sand mine in Winkler County,
Tx. The companies say this provides logistical efficiencies and cost savings to
produce high-quality resin-coated sand
in the Permian Basin.

"This partnership brings together the
best in-basin sand with our advanced resin
chemistries for a total in-basin proppant
solution," enthuses Mohamed Shawky,
commercial director for Hexion's oil field
technology group. "We are pleased to
partner with Black Mountain Sand to expand customer access to this unique technology, while leveraging the efficiencies
that come with being in-basin."

Hexion will station a mobile resin coating unit at Black Mountain Sand's mine in Kermit,
Tx. According to Hexion, the second-generation unit has twice the manufacturing capacity
of its predecessor and supports advanced chemistries for addressing challenges beyond
proppant flowback control, including improved crush resistance, formation water reduction
and enhanced oil production.

Verisk Acquires Genscape To Offer Near-Term Insights
JERSEY CITY, N.J.-Verisk reports it
has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Genscape, a global provider of realtime data and intelligence for commodity
and energy markets, for $364 million in
cash. Genscape will become part of Wood
Mackenzie, a Verisk business.
Genscape operates the world's largest
private network of in-field monitors, and
distributes industry-leading alternative
energy data, delivering market intelligence
across the commodity and energy spectrum, including power, oil, natural gas,
natural gas liquids, agriculture, biofuels
and maritime freight, Verisk says.
"With Genscape joining Wood Mackenzie, our customers will better understand
the defining issues facing key energy
commodities-over the long term with
Wood Mackenzie's existing offerings and
in the short term through Genscape's offerings," says Wood Mackenzie President
