flects. "The impact would devastate not
only the oil and gas industry, but also
would hurt, considerably, any citizen that
pays for electricity and gasoline."
Additional challenges Longanecker
mentions include uncertainty over the
impact of the coronavirus in China. Along
with the other concerns associated with
that outbreak, he notes, is the extent to
which it will eat into short-term oil and
gas demand, he observes.
Nevertheless, he predicts, the overall
impact for 2020 should be minimal. "Once
the outbreak is under control, supply and
demand fundamentals will correct the
market," he says.
TIPRO members applaud the energy
trade section of the "phase one" agreement signed by the United States and
China in January that commits China to
increase purchases of U.S. crude oil, refined products, liquefied natural gas and
coal, Garcia affirms.
The countries agreed that shipments
should increase from the 2017 level by no
less than $18.5 billion in 2020, and will
be at least $33.9 billion above the same
