Caterpillar Buys Weir Unit
To Launch SPM Oil & Gas
DEERFIELD, IL.-Caterpillar Inc. reports it has completed its acquisition of
Weir Group PLC's oil and gas division.
Following the acquisition, Weir Oil
& Gas has become SPM Oil & Gas.
Headquartered near Fort Worth, SPM
will continue to produce a full line of
pumps, flow iron, consumable parts
and wellhead and pressure control
products that are offered through a
global network of service centers,
Caterpillar says. The company mentions that the transaction includes more
than 40 global service centers and
2,000 employees.

pumping and pressure control portfolio
with Cat engines and transmissions will
provide additional value for our customers, " says Joe Creed, Caterpillar
Group president. " This acquisition is

Quorum To Broaden Scope Through Two Transactions
HOUSTON-Quorum Software says
it will become the world's largest software provider of business workflows
focused solely on energy through two
major transactions.
In the first, Quorum will merge with
Aucerna, a provider of integrated planning, execution and reserves software
for the energy industry that is, like
Quorum, owned by Thoma Bravo. In
the second, the combined company will
acquire TietoEVRY's oil and gas software business, which Quorum notes includes the Energy Components hydrocarbon management solutions and the
DaWinci solution for personnel and
materials logistics.

HOUSTON-Baker Hughes has
launched its next generation Onshore
Composite Flexible Pipe, which it describes as a light, flexible product that
offers a more economic and environmentally friendly alternative to steel
pipe.
Because it is spoolable, the composite pipe is easier, faster and more
cost-effective to transport and install
than steel pipe for an installation cost
that is 20% lower, Baker Hughes says.
Installation requires fewer on-site sup-

port facilities and heavy vehicles, the
company adds, which reduces operational risks, takes up less width on
pipeline rights-of-way and minimizes
impacts on surrounding land.
The pipe's noncorrosive materials
can withstand contaminants without requiring chemical inhibitors, corrosion
monitoring and inspection, or disruptive
repair work, which means it has lower
operating costs, Baker Hughes reports.

standby charges by shortening the time
required to lock out/tag out from 20-30
minutes to less than five minutes, " says

at KUDO.
The sheave lock is engaged by a hydraulic hand pump from outside the
swing area, eliminating the risk of struckby incidents and fatalities, KUDO describes. According to the company, the
second-generation design builds on lessons learned from 21 first-generation
installations to be lighter, more durable
and easier to install and maintain. For
example, it features a standard mounting
bracket that utilizes existing bolt holes
and the pumping unit framework to adapt
to any make or model.
The first second-generation installation
took place in Canada for a major producer,
KUDO relates. The company says it is
working with Silverstream Energy Solutions to expand Atabec's commercial
availability in the United States, with
both companies seeking U.S. distributors
and field pilot partners.
