IssuesUpdate: Texas Alliance of Energy Producers
From Virtual To Reality
Wagner points out that her Alliance
chairmanship is scheduled to end at the
start of January, a few months short of
the association's customary changeover
every other April. " We changed the chairman's term because it did not line up
with the rest of the terms on the Board of
Directors, which are fixed to the calendar
year, " she notes. " Of course, I heard a lot
of jokes about how they simply wanted
to get rid of me a few months early, but I
am not looking to retire from Alliance
work. I believe in this group too much.
" Our main focus, first and foremost, is
supporting our members by offering useful
programs and answering questions, whether
they deal with the legislature, regulatory
arena or the industry itself, " she says. " I
have seen what the information and advocacy the Alliance provides can do for independent mom-and-pop producers and
also for large, publicly traded entities.
When all those voices unite on an issue, it
makes a difference and people listen. "
Unfortunately, pandemic realities have
prompted the Alliance to forgo its usual
annual convention for a virtual offering
this spring. However, Wagner says the
Alliance is taking steps to organize an
in-person event this autumn.
" We are looking to hold our fall Board
of Directors meeting in person earlier
than normal and hope to host it in conjunction with a general membership meeting, probably in Fort Worth, " she details.
" We are in the early stages of planning
that and lining up some great speakers,
but nothing is finalized yet. "

Alliance Fully Focused On Legislature
FORT WORTH-The Texas Alliance
of Energy Producers feels good about
the outcome of any fair game.
That is to say, if the 2021 Texas Legislature is a tug-of-war match between
the Alliance and advocates of governmental overreach, Alliance Chairman Cye
Wagner is confident her team will win as
long as the game observes the rules. And
the first rule, reflects Wagner, who leads
exploration and executive management
at Cooper Oil & Gas in Fort Worth, is
that a policy proposal must adhere to
reality and not rhetoric.
" The goal always is to make sure any
policy affecting our industry-whether
legislative or regulatory-is based on sound
facts, data and science, " she describes.
" That approach prevents governmental
efforts to pick winners and losers and
avoids requirements that unfairly harm a
subset of operators or ignore how things
actually work in the field. When policies
or proposals are based on hearsay, emotion
and bad media, we have to fight back.
" We want to make sure Texas remains
friendly to fossil fuel production, " she
