PBPA Meeting Looks At Politics, ESG
Permian Basin Petroleum Association
MIDLAND-The Permian Basin Petroleum
Association will return to two
familiar venues for its 2021 annual meeting,
scheduled for Sept. 29-30 in Midland.
As PBPA Chairman Scott Kidwell
reflects on the approaching conference,
he contrasts it with the 2020 edition. Although
the association rose to the occasion
to pull off an unprecedented event that
year, he expresses hope it proves to be a
one-off event.
" Last year's PBPA annual meeting
was held virtually, " Kidwell recalls. " It
was the first, and I hope only, fully
virtual annual meeting we will ever have
to hold. While it wasn't the medium we
would have preferred, I am incredibly
proud of the conference our team put
together in 2020. "
This year, PBPA plans to meet in person.
" We are not fully out of the woods
yet and may have to adjust our plans, but
we are incredibly excited to try and bring
everyone who's comfortable back together,
in-person, for PBPA's 59th Annual Meeting, "
Kidwell says.
The convention begins with a welcome
reception on the evening of
Wednesday, Sept. 29 at the Permian
Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland.
PBPA President Ben Shepperd describes
the site as an ideal setting. He explains,
" It's the largest museum in the United
States dedicated to the oil and gas industry.
The story the museum paints of
more than 100 years of innovation and
evolution in the Permian Basin's oil
and gas industry humbly illuminates
the shoulders on which we are all standing
today, and gives attendees a glimpse
of what is possible tomorrow. "
Events on the following day, Thursday,
Sept. 30, will take place at the Petroleum
Club of Midland. PBPA says the program
will feature speakers including Texas
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Texas
Railroad Commissioner Wayne Christian,
and Texas Representative Craig Goldman,
R-Fort Worth, who chairs the House Energy
Resources Committee.
According to PBPA, the day starts
with the annual meeting's customary
Texas & New Mexico Kick-Off Breakfast.
Other items on the schedule include a
panel discussion on the Texas legislature,
emerging environmental, social and governance
technologies, electricity in the
Permian Basin, and a panel discussion
among company chief executive officers.
" This year, we are very excited to
bring attendees some incredible keynote
speakers, " Shepperd relates. " Over
breakfast, attendees will hear from two
of the most important regulators in
Texas and New Mexico: Texas Railroad
Commissioner Wayne Christian and
New Mexico Oil Conservation Division
Director Adrienne Sandoval. And it will
be hard to find an empty seat in the
house when Texas Lieutenant Governor
Dan Patrick steps up to the podium
over lunch. "
Moreover, he says, the Texas legislative
panel looks likely to retain its status
as the convention's most popular presentation.
" Coming off a very eventful
regular legislative session, along with a
few special sessions since then, this
