that in mind, I will continue protect,
promote and advance the entirety of the
oil and gas industry. "
Looking Back, Moving Forward
Finn joined the association in 2014
during her stint as an Ohio-based staff
member for Congressman Bill Johnson,
R-Oh. Later, when she went to work for
Ascent, she says she resumed the company's
membership to network and voice
the company's concerns to the Ohio
General Assembly. Shortly thereafter,
she was elected to OOGA's Board of
Trustees and earned a seat on the group's
Executive Committee to represent unconventional
operators, which she has
done for five years.
Finn says she has ascended rapidly
despite personal and professional attributes
that could have limited her role in a lesser
organization.
" The process of becoming an officer
at OOGA has been unique and something
I have never experienced in other board
positions, " she recounts. " There is a strong
legacy here and a drive to continue tradition.
At the time, being new to oil and gas,
being a young female and being an unconventional
operator would have appeared
to be strikes against me for any sort of
leadership position in the association.
" I found that was not the case, " she
assures. " I was taken under the wings of
some amazing leaders in this Ohio industry,
who guided me through the organization's
inner workings. Hard work,
perseverance and respect for the history
of the Ohio industry were key to becoming
a leader at OOGA. "
As she assesses the challenges that
confront the state's oil and gas producers
in early 2023, Finn notes that many of
them are shared by producers throughout
the country. " There are a significant number
of federal issues that are top of mind, " she
illustrates. " These include the continuous
methane regulations that are working
through the rulemaking process, the greenhouse
gas reporting rule, infrastructure
and market access constraints, as well as
the general attacks on our industry by the
current administration in Washington. "
Closer to home, she notes OOGA
will remain involved in regulatory
rewrites at the Ohio Division of Oil and
Gas, while continuing its efforts to help
producers gain the mineral leasing access
to state lands as allowed under Ohio
law (see preceding story). " That would
allow the state to earn extra income to
apply to the general fund or assist with
state park funding, " Finn observes.
" Leasing state land is a major source of
funding for many other states around
the country. "
