API Cybersecurity Standard
Named Anti-Terrorism Tool
WASHINGTON-The American Petroleum
Institute announces that API Standard
1164, " Pipeline Control Systems
Cybersecurity, " has earned designation
and certification by the Department of
Homeland Security (DHS) as a Qualified
Anti-Terrorism Technology (QATTs)
under the Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering
Effective Technologies Act of 2002.
The SAFETY Act was passed in response
to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. It
provides incentives for developing and deploying
anti-terrorism technologies while
establishing liability limitations for claims
resulting from an act of terrorism where
QATTs have been deployed, API describes.
The institute says API Standard 1164's certification
will give companies that follow
the standard's third edition important liability
protections if a cyberterrorist attack impacts
their pipeline operations.

standards that enhance national security
and safety by making critical pipeline
infrastructure more resilient against cyberattacks, "

Hodge Walker its chief operating
