this sort of skill set, the ACS also lays out the
required precision, in this case +10/-5 knots of
the appropriate V speed.
By the way, unlike the days of old, the oral exam
now continues throughout the flight portion of
the test; and the examiner creates integrated
scenarios to test not only the applicant's
knowledge, but how the applicant applies that
knowledge to "real life" situations.
So much for standing on the ground watching the
applicant prove they can take an airplane into the
air and return it safely to earth.
WHAT THE HECK ARE ALL THOSE WEIRD
NUMBERS AND LETTERS?

Each element of each task in the ACS has an
alpha-numeric code that makes one suspect that
the IRS had a hand in creating it. Long term, the
plan is that the knowledge test reports will code
missed questions in the same format that the ACS
uses for various tasks, but that's not the case yet.

Each segment of the code is separated by a dot.
The first segment indicates the test. PA for
Private Pilot Airplane, CA for Commercial Pilot
Airplane, and so forth. The second segment is
the Roman numeral that matches the area of
operations from preflight through postflight from
the appropriate ACS. The third segment is the
task, and the final segment is the task element
knowledge area.
FOR INSTANCE, PA.I.B.K3A IS:
PA-Private Pilot Airplane
I-Preflight Preparation
B-Airworthiness Requirements
K3-Equipment requirements for day and night

VFR flight
A-Flying with inoperative equipment

Hey, you always said you wanted to learn

Actually, you'll probably never fully learn the codes,
even if you are a DPE, but they're easy to look up, as
the codes follow the order of each ACS document.
