PEAK PERFORMANCE
Accident investigations have discovered causal factors resulting from unreasonable
expectations of aircraft performance-especially when operating at the edges of the
aircraft weight and balance envelope. That's why the General Aviation Joint Steering
Committee's Loss of Control Work Group suggests improvement in pilots' understanding

PILOTS AND MEDICATION
Impairment from medication, particularly over-the-counter meds, has been cited in a
number of accidents in GA. Sedating antihistamines are the most commonly detected

AIR FORCE PROVIDING $1 MILLION FOR PLANEENGLISH PILOT SKILLS APP
The U.S. Air Force is providing $1 million to three Purdue University aviation and science
graduates for PlaneEnglish, an app to help develop and mature a suite of "critical
communication skills" that advance pilot safety.

FEDERAL REGISTER NOTICE ON NEW DIABETES PROTOCOL
The FAA has published a Federal Register notice on the new Diabetes Protocol for
Applicants Seeking to Exercise Air Transport, Commercial, or Private Pilot Privileges.
The innovative new protocol, which went into effect Nov. 7, 2019, makes it possible for
airline transport or commercial pilots with insulin-treated diabetes mellitus (ITDM) to
potentially receive a special-issuance medical certification. Read more.

REVISED AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE FOR BONANZA AILERON ASSEMBLIES
An airworthiness directive (AD) that required inspection of the right aileron flight control cable
end fittings on many Beechcraft Bonanza single-engine airplanes has been superseded by a
revised AD that removes some Bonanza models from the list of affected aircraft. Learn more.

SMALL DRONES HAVE TRAFFIC 'IN SIGHT'
Safe integration of drones in the airspace used by all requires active measures for traffic
avoidance, measures that account for aircraft and other objects that are not "cooperating."
