Linden Airport in New Jersey faces challenges that have resulted from official inattention, including lax oversight of the city's airport management contractor, Linden Aviation Management. The city of Linden submitted a corrective action plan to the FAA in response to an official complaint about the airport that detailed 12 instances of potential noncompliance with FAA grant terms. For many years AOPA has urged improvements at Linden Airport and has held numerous meetings with local officials. The decision protects airports and landing strips by disallowing wind turbine development within 10 miles of any county airport. Commercial wind turbines have long been a source of concern for pilots and general aviation safety advocates. They are tall and known to generate turbulence that poses a threat to aircraft up to five miles away. "Sedgwick County has taken steps to protect aviation and local airports-a vital community asset and economic engine for this area," said AOPA Central Southwest Regional Manager Tom Chandler. "AOPA stands ready to help protect other airports facing similar encroachment issues." aopa.org/pilot/kansas aopa.org/pilot AOPA PILOT | 13 CARGO HOOK pop-out floats WIRE STRIKE KIT www.robinsonheli.com © 2019 Robinson Helicopter Company.
