THE AVIATION WEATHER CENTER forecast winds aloft for November 7, 2019. The maximum jet stream winds are easily visible as they round the axis of the trough aloft, which extends to the southwest of Hudson Bay. FROM PIVOTAL WEATHER'S WEBSITE, the Global Forecast System model gives us another view of the same situation. Model agreement is one sign of a reasonably reliable forecast outcome. THE AWC'S FORECAST low-level surface prognosis chart shows a surface low over Maine, near the jet core's front left quadrant, and with a cold front extending to the southwest. The forecast came true, or verified in meteo-speak. pilots will face icing, moderate turbulence, low instrument conditions, and slippery runways for the first time in many months. It won't be a surprise if they checked the constant pressure low-level prog charts a few days ahead of their flights.
