THE COWLING ON THE PA-14 is as pristine as can be imagined. The Lycoming O-320 is separated from the cockpit by a titanium firewall; the exhaust pipe was sanded and polished and it's ringed by a riveted heat shroud. The fabric work and paint are hallmarks of a Ragwood Refactory restoration. The carbon fiber panel offers a Garmin 696 GPS, Garmin G5, ADS-B In and Out, Icom radio, and MVP engine analyzer. The removable back seat lets this beautiful airplane enjoy a backcountry adventure. Bushman says in backcountry flying, pilots volume out before they weigh out, so he ensured that there's plenty of storage space here. Hirons wanted the PA-14 to be show quality, and Bushman pushed the limits. Even the paint scheme on the aircraft tail became an all-nighter. The owner wanted a race flag, but Bushman believed his early attempts were too flat. He proudly shows off how he painstakingly detailed each square of the black flag on the yellow paint to show movement, like a flag at the finish line-the winner. aopa.org/pilot AOPA PILOT | 55http://www.aopa.org/pilot
