JULY 4, 1929-OFFICIAL OPENING WITH AIRSHOW. Crocker Snow, Zenas and Laughlan Crocker, proprietors. 1935-WILLIAM H. DANFORTH purchases the airfield and surrounding fields. 1940-JOHN VAN ARSDALE leases the airfield from the Danforth family. Establishes Cape Cod Flying Service. 1939-SNOW ESTABLISHES one of Massachusetts' first commercial airlines- Skyways-before being named the first director of aeronautics in Massachusetts. 1930-1935-PRIVATE AIRFIELD FOR OYSTER HARBORS RESIDENTS. Polo fields and car racetrack added. 1946-DANFORTH FAMILY HIRES Harry Kornhiser as family pilot. 1949-VAN ARSDALE BEGINS Provincetown-Boston Airlines in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Kornhiser takes over as manager of the airfield. 1960S-THE BARNSTABLE COUNTY FAIR is held at the airfield with airplane rides, skydiving, and airshows. 1980S-GLIDER RIDES, BANNER TOWING, AND SKYDIVING AT THE AIRPORT; a golf course is built on the former fairgrounds site. 1970S-RICK KORNHISER TAKES over business from his father. 2000-RICK KORNHISER IS killed in an aircraft accident; airfield is without management. 2004-TOWN OF BARNSTABLE AGREES to a three-year lease with Siderwicz; 10-year lease established in 2014 with son Christopher Siderwicz. 2002-DANFORTH FAMILY SELLS THE PROPERTY to the town of Barnstable; Chris " Sid " Siderwicz bids to manage the airfield.
