RUDDER & WRENCH AOPA is now demonstrating the first George Braly of GAMI shows the distinctive orange hue of G100UL unleaded fuel taken from one of the AOPA Baron's left wing tanks. AOPA President Mark Baker took part in the initial flights using G100UL in the left engine and traditional avgas in the right. AOPA intends to try other unleaded fuels in the Baron as they become available and closely monitor engine performance and internal wear. 100-octane unleaded formula to gain an FAA supplemental type certificate. The demonstration began October 31 in a Beechcraft Baron twin dispatched to Ada, Oklahoma, where General Aviation Modifications Inc. (GAMI) produces its G100UL. Additional demonstration flights will be scheduled. GAMI is currently working toward commercializing its fuel in order to distribute it more widely. As other 100-octane unleaded fuels come online and are authorized for use by the FAA, AOPA intends to demonstrate them as well.
