ASI MESSAGE
Join the AOPA Air Safety Institute (ASI) Leadership team in this recorded
webinar as they look back on how GA safety fared in 2021. They review
some preliminary statistics, look at several specific GA accidents, and
discuss possible causes and impactful lessons learned from them. Richard
McSpadden, Paul Deres, John Collins, Robert Geske, and Alicia Herron
offer insights and perspectives on the year, how ASI responded with
safety education and outreach, and what ASI is looking to see in 2022.

1. D) Aircraft certified with an Accelerate-Go set of
limitations as well as Accelerate-Stop limitations.
2. C) V1; 35 ft.
3. A) V1 is the fastest speed at which the pilot must immediately
take first action to reject a takeoff so that the aircraft will
stop within the calculated Accelerate-Stop distance. It is also
the slowest speed at which, during a failure of the critical
engine on takeoff, the pilot can continue to V2

4. C) When an engine fails, the aircraft rolls and yaws toward
the dead engine. Asymmetric lift-the wing with the
failed engine produces less lift-causes most of the roll.
Asymmetric thrust, coupled with the increased drag of the
dead engine's windmilling prop, causes the yaw.
Multiengine airplanes offer better performance
and greater safety. Those benefits, however, come
with strings attached. In this video, we explore
some of the proactive things pilots can do to
ensure a safe outcome on every multiengine flight.

FAA Completes Rule Establishing Pilot
Records Database to Increase Safety
Now it's time to get on board
BY AMY LABODA
On May 26, 2021, the FAA announced a new rule that enables the
sharing of pilot records among employers in an electronic database
maintained by the FAA. On December 7, 2021, it went into effect.
The final rule for the Pilot Records Database requires air carriers
and certain other operators to report pilots' employment history,
training, and qualifications to the database. The rule also requires
The FAA will publish an advisory circular
to accompany the final rule and will offer
additional resources to support industry
adoption and use of the database.
air carriers and certain operators to review records contained in the
database when considering pilots for employment. The database
also allows Commercial and ATP rated pilots to see what is in their
FAA records once they register on the portal.
" Tireless advocacy by the families of Colgan Flight 3407 and
continued engagement with the FAA has made this database a
reality. With it, employers will be able to quickly and thoroughly
make informed hiring decisions to keep our skies safe, " said FAA
Administrator Steve Dickson.
The rule updates the current records reporting process to meet
information-sharing requirements in the Airline Safety and Federal
Aviation Administration Extension Act passed by Congress in 2010.
Once the transition period is complete, the database will serve as
the repository for pilot records from the FAA and records reported
by current and previous employers.
The database includes FAA pilot certificate information, such as
certificates and ratings, along with summaries of unsatisfactory
pilot applications for new certificates or ratings; and that's just the
beginning.
