OPEN SCIENCE AT APA PUBLISHING

NEW! Preregistration Standards for Psychology
Preregistration allows researchers to specify and share the details of their research in a public registry before
carrying out the research. The American Psychological Association, British Psychological Society, and
German Psychological Society have partnered with the Leibniz Institute for Psychology and Center for Open
Science to create Preregistration Standards for Quantitative Research in Psychology. Representatives from
these societies collaborated to develop an adaptable preregistration template for widespread adoption.

Data Sharing 

Registered Trials and Preregistrations 

Sharing research data promotes scientific progress,
allowing replication, reanalysis, and generalizability
testing. APA offers authors the option to share data
publicly via our own repository in partnership with the
Center for Open Science. 

Clinical trial registration can help ensure transparency
in reporting results. Likewise, preregistration can be
useful for distinguishing confirmatory and exploratory
analyses. Several APA journals offer badges
recognizing preregistration of studies and/or analysis
plans. 

Open Science Badges 
Partnering with the Center for Open Science, many
APA journals now offer Open Science Badges to
recognize open science practices. 

Public Significance Statements 
APA is committed to bringing research to the public.
Along with article abstracts, many APA journals
publish public significance statements summarizing
the significance of a study's findings for all interested
readers. 

Replications and Registered Reports 
Replication studies build on previously published
science, and many APA journals are leading the way
in publishing replication studies, regardless of result,
and/or null findings. 
Another way of addressing publication bias is
via Registered Reports, now published in several APA
journals. These articles are reviewed in two stages:
first, a registration is reviewed for study design and
methodology; if the study plan is accepted, the full
manuscript is then reviewed for adherence to the
design and published regardless of result.
